About the film
Smugglers charge between €5,000 and €6,000 for passage into Europe, using forged passports, dangerous routes and predawn border crossings from Serbia into Hungary. Undercover investigator Tamer Bakiner spent months infiltrating the network and gaining the smugglers’ trust. Filmmakers Lukas Augustin and Vanessa Schlesier follow his investigation, trace the people behind the operation and ask Interior Minister Nancy Faeser whether border controls and tougher penalties can offer a lasting answer.
